What Does an Octopus Have to Do With Marketing at Curious Work?

When I started Curious Work, I looked for a symbol that showed both creativity and adaptability, which are central to what I do. The octopus stood out to me, not only because it’s fascinating, but also because it represents many of the qualities I value in work and life.
A Master of Multitasking
An octopus moves through the world with eight arms, each able to do something different, but all working together for a single purpose. That’s what I love about marketing: strategy, design, writing, communication, and execution all work together and respond to each other to create something amazing.
Intelligence and Emotional Depth
The octopus is one of the most intelligent creatures in the sea. It can solve problems, remember things, and it’s playful, too! It’s not just smart; it’s also emotionally complex. That mix of intellect and intuition is the balance I aim for in my work, combining data and insight with empathy and understanding.
Adaptability in Any Environment
An octopus can change color, shape, and texture to blend into its surroundings. It thrives in environments that are constantly shifting. In the same way, Curious Work adapts to each project’s unique needs, shifting strategies, tools, and tone to fit the audience, industry, and moment.
Curious (Work) at Its Core
Most of all, the octopus is curious. It explores, learns, and keeps experimenting. That same sense of wonder and trying new things is what drives Curious Work. Each project is a chance to ask new questions, discover insights, and find creative solutions that encourage people to act.
A Heart (or Three) for Connection
Fun fact: an octopus has three hearts. This reminds me that great work is not just about being clever, but about making connections. Whether I’m building a brand, telling a story, or creating an experience, it always comes back to connecting with people, ideas, and purpose.
To me, the octopus is more than just a logo. It stands for how Curious Work thinks, feels, and creates: nimble, thoughtful, and always evolving.
