The Challenge

Virginia International Gymnastics (VIGS) has been a fixture in the Richmond, Virginia area for over 35 years. Though the gym is widely known for having an exceptional program, the existing website didn’t really reflect the brand I’d come to know as a parent of a gymnast. While owners Marshall & Natalie Long weren’t struggling to fill their program, they did need help answering common questions (and reducing the frequent phone calls to the front desk).

The gym needed a website that made information easier to find for prospective families, reflected the quality of its coaching, and showcased the welcoming culture that draws generations of gymnasts back year after year.

The Approach

Being a longtime gymnastics parent, I knew many of the questions parents ask before enrolling their kids. What does the program look like? Who will be coaching my child? Is it safe? Is the environment competitive or supportive? What do other families say about their experience?

Those questions form the foundation of the new website's strategy. Rather than simply reorganizing information from the old website, I built the new site around what families actually want to know before they sign up, making it easier to understand the programs, find answers, and get a feel for the culture.

Website Design & Launch

The website features dedicated pages for each core area of the business, including Coaches and Staff, Facility, Testimonials, Events, Careers, and the Pro Shop, as well as detailed program pages for Recreational Classes, Camps, Competitive Team, and Xcel Team. An FAQ page helps answer many of the questions that parents previously called the gym to ask. At the same time, galleries and photography throughout the website give visitors a chance to see the facility, coaches, and athletes in action.

Throughout the site, the copy and design reinforce VIGS's core values, safety first, fun with purpose, athlete growth, and character first.

SEO & Search Visibility

Alongside the redesign, I restructured and optimized the site for search, helping VIGS show up for the families actively searching for gymnastics programs in the Richmond and Midlothian area. That included a clear page structure, headings, metadata, on-page copy, internal linking, and content built around the way prospective customers actually search.

The Results

Within the first 30 days after launch:

↑ 46% Site Sessions

4,172 total sessions

↑ 38% Unique Visitors

2,265 unique visitors

↑ 65% Organic Search Sessions

1,675 sessions from Google

↑ 14% Average Session Duration

2 minutes, 56 seconds per visit

These early numbers show that more people are finding the site, arriving through organic search, and spending more time exploring once they get there.

The Takeaway

VIGS earned its reputation through more than 35 years of exceptional coaching. This project gave that reputation a website built to match it.

For gyms and youth sports programs, a website should help prospective families understand what makes your program special, answer their questions, and make the next step simple.
